Obtaining Your CCNA Certification

The Cisco CCNA certification is extremely popular amongst entry-level IT people. Even individuals that have little interest in computer networking, but are otherwise involved in IT find this curriculum extremely helpful. IT professionals such as programmers can do a better job with their code by understanding how networking works.

Due to the popularity of this program, there are many training classes and training methods to choose from. If you are in no hurry, you can likely obtain this certification spending no more than around $100 for a set of books. However, this method will take quite a while as the books are large and there is quite a bit of studying to do.

Another option is to go to class at a local community college. This method is very inexpensive as well, but it also takes some time. The classes generally run one or two days per week and you would likely have to spend more than one semester in classes. Often this is a great method to actually learn about the equipment as you have plenty of time to kind of soak in the material. If you don't mind spending six months in classes, this is your best option. You can obtain the certification cheaply and get a very good education out of the deal.

If you need to get the certification fast, there are many different boot camps held all around the country. The cost is around $3,000 to $4,000 and many of these programs guarantee that you will pass the exam on the first try. It can be helpful to find a local provider as the guarantee allows you to sit through the class a second time. It can get expensive if you have to travel back to the training facility to sit through the class again. These boot camps run for around 5 days and usually last around 12 hours per day. It is called immersion training as you should plan on doing nothing but training for the full week. They encourage you to turn off your phone and try to remove yourself from your day job as much as possible. Indeed, even when you are not in class they suggest you take some time to go over the days materials again.

The boot camp programs are not for everyone. It is really a very difficult week and it can be difficult to keep up with the classes. Due to the short period of time you have for training, the instructors keep the class moving forward no matter what. If you fall behind, you will likely stay behind. The best bet is to focus 100% on the classes, get plenty of sleep, and plan on doing absolutely nothing else during the training week.

The final method is going through a training center, but not taking a boot camp. For most people this only works if you are able to find a local class. These classes usually go for around three weeks and are more laid back than the boot camps. The classes are usually only 7-8 hours per day and it gives the instructors the opportunity to really go over every detail fully. If you fall behind here, you have time to get caught back up. The only downside with this is you have to miss a lot of work, and the pace may be too slow for some.

No matter which way you go, you are more than likely to pass the CCNA exams on the first try. Although they are very difficult, with the right training you should be more than prepared.
